Sheriff slams 10 teens after couple attacked in Cumbernauld

TEN youths who were involved in a shocking attack on a young couple were rapped by a sheriff when they appeared in court.

The boy and girl were knocked to the ground and kicked and punched - while the male, who was beaten unconscious, had his HEAD stamped on repeatedly.

CCTV footage of the incident was shown several times to the court. Sheriff Robert Dickson told the 10 youths, none of whom was older than 17: “You are very lucky not to have killed this man.”

He also described the attack as “shameful and shocking”. And there were emotional scenes when Sheriff Dickson handed two of the group custodial sentences.
