Shock as mother gives birth in car park

Staff at the Williamwood Medical Centre were locking up when on of the receptionists, Margaret, came running back saying that a woman had gone into labour in the car park.

Doctor Naushad Ali rushed to the woman’s aid as she sat in the passenger seat of her car.

She and her husband had realised there was not enough time to go to the hospital so drove to the centre instead.

Dr Ali delivered a healthy baby boy to the couple and held onto the child until paramedics could attend and snip the umbilical cord.

Mother and child are said to be fine.
