Shop owners in bid to keep post office local

A couple who own a newsagents in Lenzie want to take over the local post office and keep it in the heart of the community.

Post Office bosses recently did a U-turn over controversial proposals to move Lenzie Post Office, in Kirkintilloch Road, to the Morning, Noon and Night store in Galloway Road following a consultation.

Hundreds of responses were submitted and residents and elected members were concerned about the branch moving from the area.

Owner of Lenzie Post Office, Jass Toor, wants to step down from the business, meaning it could still be relocated to other premises.

Louise Dar and husband Rehman, who own the Day-Today express shop just a few doors down from the post office, want to take it over.

They had initially registered an interest in relocating the branch to their premises.

Mrs Dar said: “We’re trying a different route now and want to take over the post office as it is. We have a good relationship with them and Jazz is happy with that.
