Siege in Kirkintilloch as man barricades himself inside house

It is believed the man, described as in his 50s, had threatened to blow up the property.

No one else is thought to be in the house.

The major police incident is still ongoing at the mid-terraced property off Ellisland Drive in Harestanes.

At least 12 police in riot gear, a number of uniformed officers, a police dog unit, fire brigade officers and three ambulances are at the scene.

It took riot police at least half an hour to break through the front entrance to gain access to the terraced bungalow around 12.45pm today.

People in neighbouring properties have been evacuated and the area surrounding the property has been cordoned off.

Eyewitnesses said the man is believed to have health problems.
