Skye's SAFETY slogan proves to be a winner

North Lanarkshire Council’s Road Safety Team invited Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSOs) to come up with a slogan about travelling safely to and from school.

Pupils from 41 primary schools accepted the challenge in a bid to inspire their friends to stay safe.

Local youngster Skye came in third place with SAFETY acronym “Stop And Focus Every Time You Cross The Road”, winning a £20 voucher.

The winning entry came from Emma Kerr of St Mary’s PS in Cumbernauld with ‘‘Getting to school is easy by car, but to use your feet is smarter by far.”

Emma scooped a £50 voucher for her winning entry.

The runner-up was Alexander Donnelly from St Serf’s in Airdrie, who landed a £30 voucher for “Take your bike or walk to school BUT don’t forget the safety rule.

“Look both ways and listen too, you’ll be a safe and healthy you”.

Councillor James Coyle, Convener of the Planning and Transportation Committee, said: “Our JRSOs play an important role in promoting road safety in their schools, and their creativity always produces great slogans to highlight important messages among other pupils.

“Congratulations to our three winners and to everyone who took part in the competition.”
