Sky’s the limit – new future for historic Eagle Inn

East Dunbartonshire Council’s planning board has approved plans from Jacca Leisure to start work on the fomer Eagle Inn premises in Cowgate.

The 19th century building, which has been used as a hotel and post office in the past, has been empty since the council’s social services department moved out.

A number of objections were lodged against the plans - with nearby residents concerned about additional noise and traffic.

But these concerns were rejected by councillors, who were keen to focus on the positive economic impact the new complex could have on the town.

Councillor Billy Hendry, chairman of the planning board, said: “This is great news for the town, with locals, tourists and canal users all benefiting from quality food in a historic setting.”

Repairs to the roof and stonework will match the orginals of the B-listed building.

The Di Ciacca family, who own Jacca Leisure and run a number of restaurants in Bothwell, are expected to start work on their latest project in the coming weeks.It’s hoped the new restaurant could be open for business before the end of the year.
