SLIDESHOW - Carnwath Show was another huge success

Visitors enjoyed an action-packed day at Saturday’s Carnwath Show, which was a fun day out for all the family.

In association with Lee and Carnwath Estate, the world’s oldest foot race, the three mile Red Hose Race, was this year won for the second year in a row by a jubilant Steven Evetts, who jogged off £100 richer and with a pair of those famous red hose.

The show, at Heads Inn Farm on Saturday, July 25, boasted many great attractions including dog agility display, face painting, tug-of-war and the unique tossing of the sheaf.

All classes of cattle, sheep, Clydesdales and other horses and ponies were on display throughout the day in the main ring, with the usual horse and pony show followed by sheep and poultry judging, which saw a substantial number of entries.

The Champion of Champions was announced in the main ring, with this year’s winner John Nimmo from Bogside’s Limousin bull. A fine specimen according to many who were in attendance and a worthy winner of the title.

The poultry classes were the subject of many discussions for the judges, however, Ross Nisbet from Cumbernauld took first prize for his Serana Hen, while James Hope walked away with the title of Supreme Champion with his White Crested Black Poland.

The weather was fairly kind to this year’s show organisers, however, later that afternoon, all cameras were frantically being looked out as a vortex, or water spout, more commonly associated with tropical tornadoes spun over Clydesdale reaching down several hundred feet.

Thankfully there were no reports of any damage having been caused.
