The controversial proposals for the Catherine Street junction have been met with wide-spread anger and concern. Click above to view pictures from the protest.

A pilot scheme was held last summer and it too was severely criticised by members of the public.

East Dunbartonshire Visually Impaired People’s Forum have raised major concerns about public safety if the scheme gets the go-ahead.

The aim is to create a ‘shared space’ environment where neither pedestrians or motorists have right of way, and have to rely on eye contact between each other.

Campaigners staged their protest before tonight’s full council meeting, when a decision on the proposal was due to be made.
