SLIDESHOW: Our photographer got some great pics at the Highland Games

The Games kicked off this year’s revived Milngavie Week and included a new event ‘The Great Highland Bake Off’ which invited people to bring their shortbread, tablet/fudge, cloutie dumpling or cakes/biscuits to be judged to hopefully win a prize.

Emmerdale’s Eric Pollard actor Chris Chittell was the Chieftain again this year because he enjoyed doing it so much last year.

Events throughout the day included: tug of war, wrestling, pipe bands, heavies, arm wrestling and Scottish dancing.

They also had the haggis hurling world championship, jellympics and jelly wars and a karaoke competition in the beer tent as well as water wars.

Claire Oliver, one of the organisers, said: “We were really pleased that so many people came along - there was a steady flow of visitors all day and it even stayed dry for us!”

Visitors also enjoyed fairground rides and shows, a wide variety of trade stalls, on-site catering and drinks.

All profits from the day will go to local charity Funding Neuro which was set up by Bearsden man Bryn Williams to raise funds for research into finding an effective treatment and possibly a cure for Parkinson’s Disease and other brain related disorders.
