EIGHT members of 71 Engineer Regiment (Volunteers) cycled over 500 miles in five days to raise money for the UK’s leading military charity specialising in the care of veterans’ mental health, Combat Stress - and they stopped at Cumbernauld on the way.

The soldiers started their journey at a Territorial Army Centre in Kirkwall, Orkney, on Monday, May 20.

The group of eight then stopped off in Dingwall, Elgin, Aviemore, Callander, Paisley and Cumbernauld before reaching their final destination at their headquarters and base at RAF Leuchars on May 24.

The soldiers cycled between 80 and 120 miles each day, and set up a Justgiving page in order to raise money for their efforts.

The chosen charity Combat Stress provides a unique and dedicated service to veterans who are suffering from conditions such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression and anxiety disorders.

In order to provide the highest standards of care to veterans, Combat Stress provides a range of services including their residential clinical treatment, 24hour helpline and their community outreach service.

With over 800 veterans receiving their support in Scotland, Combat Stress aims to ensure ex-service men and women receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
