South Lanarkshire Council £12 million cuts planned

The Gazette gained exclusive access to a report unveiled to councillors and officials last week, detailing what jobs and services will have to go if the council is to square its books in 2013.

The recommended measures include a third year of massive hikes in cemetery charges, the loss of over 150 council posts and even more reductions in the already diminished school lollipop crossing patrols.

In the report, council finance director Paul Manning said that, while the government’s cash allocation to South Lanarkshire would not be fully known until next month, it seems likely that £12.3 million in saving and cuts would have to be found next year.
