South Lanarkshire Council’s £3 million windfall

THERE will be a huge sigh of relief in many Clydesdale homes this week at the surprise news that a last-minute £3 million windfall will spare our area from some highly unpopular council cuts.

As a result of re-jigged savings plans, school meal charges won’t be increased, over 60s won’t be charged for using council leisure and sports facilities and local OAP groups won’t lose their Christmas party grants.

New charges will be levied for uplifting bulky domestic waste but tenants will still receive one free uplift per year.

However, it is feared this may result in Clydesdale’s beauty spots being targeted by fly-tippers.
