South Lanarkshire fatal road accidents halved

THE number of fatal and serious accidents on South Lanarkshire roads has more than halved in the last 10 years.

The figures for Clydesdale reflect the same decrease, with 69 people killed or seriously injured in 2000, 42 in 2005 and only 31 in 2010. Those figures included youngsters - three children in 2000, five in 2005 and only one in 2010.

Chair of South Lanarkshire Council’s Road Safety Forum, Councillor John Murray, said: “While one accident that results in a fatal or serious injury casualty is one accident too many, these figures are extremely encouraging.
