Southside man’s £10,000 fine

A SOUTHSIDE man who was caught growing cannabis plants in his Muirhead home has been hit with a £10,000 confiscation order.

Police raided Craig Ross’s home on August 24, 2010.

When they asked if there were any controlled substances on the premises, Ross pointed officers in the direction of his loft where he had sophisticated cannabis production.

A total of 37 plants at various stages of growth were seized along with various paraphernalia to do with cannabis cultivation.

The case was heard at Airdrie Sheriff Court and Ross was given a 120 hours community service order.

Lindsey Miller, head of the serious and organised crime division, said: “Craig Ross built and maintained a sophisticated cannabis production in his home.

“His conviction for cultivating cannabis allowed us to assess his income for the past six years.

“After a full investigation of his accounts, it was found that £67,277.54 could not be accounted for legitimately.

“Today’s confiscation order for £10,000 represents the sum available to the Crown at this time.

“This money will be added to the £60 million already gathered from the Proceeds of Crime and will be re-invested by Scottish ministers through the Cashback for Communities programme.”
