Southsiders head out to play in the snow

The city’s motorway network ground to a halt last Friday thanks to hours of heavy snowfall, adding hours onto evening journeys for homebound commuters.

Glasgow City Council said 26 gritters were deployed in an attempt to clear the city’s main roads, while East Renfrewshire Council’s winter maintenance team worked 24 hours to clear 75% of its network.

Waste and recycling collections were disrupted on Monday, with ERC commenting: “Crews will return as soon as it is safe to do so.”

Still, readers were out in their droves making the most of the weekend snowfall - including Grace Watson, who shared with The Extra a winter wonderland scene in Eaglesham Park.

Amy Jack, from Neilston, sent in a picture of her son Lewis (2) and a familiar face - the family had crafted a convincing Olaf from Disney film Frozen in their garden.

And photographer Chris Cameron (@chriscammy) shared one of his shots via Twitter, of a chilly scene at the Greenbank Garden fountain, and Foam the water nymph.

Chris tweeted: “This cold snap has really hit - poor Foam has frozen!”

The snow may not be around for long as the Met Office forecast shows highs of eight degrees by Friday - although light snow showers may return Saturday morning between warmer, rainier days.
