Souvenirs that tell a local story

Do you have a treasured possession, a precious family heirloom or photograph that tells a story about life, love or local industry in East Dunbartonshire over the years?

If so you might like to join other local people at a special event in Kirkintilloch during this year’s Canal Festival to share your stories and contribute to an online community archive that the EDLC Trust is building through the Trails and Tales project.

The Reminiscence event is being held on Sunday, August 30 from 11am to 4pm in the Kirky Studio, Kirky Arcade, and is reckoned a great opportunity for enthusiasts to keep local history alive.

It will be gathering objects and photographs to tell the story of East Dunbartonshire in 110 items – each item representing a story from 11 local towns and villages.

Photographer Paul Monaghan will take pictures of the items that are brought along and will catalogue them for everyone to enjoy and bookable slots are available.

EDLC Trust chairman Scott Hill said: “We hope that local people with look again at objects they have in their home, maybe in the attic that tell a story about a local person, event or place.

“Maybe it’s something from an industry that no longer exists, a gift from a loved one, a letter from a relative or something they have found in the landscape - the possibilities are endless.”

You can pre-book a space at the event (advised) by emailing [email protected] or calling 0141 777 3092.
