Splash cash boost for Learn to Swim scheme

The East Renfrewshire council programme has taught thousands of people to swim in the area’s four pools, and will use the cash boost to develop a school swimming scheme.

The move will be made ahead of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, and community services and safety convener Mary Montague said: “The Learn to Swim programme is an excellent scheme that has seen thousands of people of every age, particularly children, gain a skill they will have for life.

“All eyes will be on the forthcoming Commonwealth Games and many will be inspired to take up swimming, which is why we are developing our programme even further.”
