Sporting heroes take a bow at trust awards

The winners of the 2015 Club, Coach and Volunteer Awards - organised by East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture (EDLC) Trust - were announced recently at a ceremony at Lairdsland Primary School.

Andy Burns won the Volunteer Award, John McWilliams and Margaret McWilliams the Young Person’s Coach of the Year, John Francis Brown the Performance Coach of the Year, Anne Bruce the Community Coach of the Year, Heather Mardle the Young Coach of the Year, Jenny McMillan the Development Coach Award, Jenny Lee and Reece Chan the Active Schools Captain Of The Year, Gena Lafferty the Active Schools Volunteer Of The Year and Caroline Diaz the Disability Coach of the Year.

Meanwhile Milngavie Football Club were named Club of the Year and Campsie Black Watch legend Gerry Marley was recognised for his Contribution to Sport over a glittering career.

Councillor Alan Moir, convener of development and regeneration, said: “Well done to all the winners and nominees put forward for this year’s Club, Coach and Volunteer Awards.

“East Dunbartonshire is lucky to have such a wealth of inspirational, hard-working and knowledgeable sports coaches and volunteers.

Scott Hill, Chair of EDLC Trust, added, “I am pleased that so many people seized the opportunity to nominate their unsung sporting heroes.

“The awards recognise the shining stars who inspire, support and nurture sporting people of all ages and from all backgrounds.”
