Seeing spots, as driving instructors support Children in Need

These cars, belonging to local driving instructors, have been re-painted to promote the Big Learner Relay 2016 for Children in Need.

This fundraising effort consists of a Pudsey top box, the roof box with ‘L’ on it that most instructors have on their cars, being relayed from one driving school car to the next over 15 days, covering 3,000 miles’ worth of driving lessons all around England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

There are more than 180 lessons in the relay throughout the UK, and the legs that Lanark and District Driving Instructors’ Association will be involved are on Friday, November 11, its stretch being from Beattock to Abington, then Abington to Lanark and then Lanark to Strathaven.

This is the third year that the relay has been run but the first time the route has come through Lanark.

The previous two years have raised a total of £165,000.

The event raises funds by asking driving pupils and friends to sign a spot on the instruction cars in return for a donation to Children in Need.

Said Graham May, secretary of the Lanark association: “The members are so excited to be involved in this relay.

“It’s really great to be part of something that will make a real difference to the lives of children across the UK.”
