Spring has sprung for Mearns Horticultural Society

Honorary Treasurer Charles Murray told The Extra: “Despite a fairly cold spring, members managed to bring along a colourful display of flowers which filled the hall with their scent.

“The trophies were presented by Finlay Roberston, honorary vice-president of the society.

“Finlay first entered flowers in one of our shows 60 years ago, and his name is engraved on the challenge trophy, which was presented to the society by Wallace Fairweather Esq. of Fa’side House in 1926.”

Charles was lucky on the day, picking up the Fa-side Challenge Cup for best bulb exhibit, alongside Dorothy Campbell with the Convenor’s Trophy for best pot plant.

Taking the Hazeldean Trophy for best cut flowers was Iris Adam, and Cheryl Nixon was awarded the Marion Ferns Trophy for best flower arrangement.

The society meets at Albertslund Hall on the second Tuesday of the month, and membership is open to all.
