SQA star success for Craigholme girl

CRAIGHOLME school are celebrating the achievements of a former pupil following her success at the SQA Star Awards last month.

Jennifer Mathieson bid goodbye to the Pollokshields school this year, and is now at Loughborough University, studying accounting and financial management — but her time there was well spent, as she was highly commented in the school candidate of the year category.

Jennifer achieved outstanding exam results, as well as representing Scotland in hockey and obtaining a gold Duke of Edinburgh award.

She was also involved in charity work for the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice, and mentored fellow pupils in maths.

Jennifer said: “I was honoured to be chosen to apply, and was shocked when I made it as a finalist!

“It’s very flattering that by simply doing things i enjoy, I have received such a high level of recognition — and the glamorous award ceremony was definitely something to remember.”

Craigholme talent was further showcased during the event, as S5 soprano Suzanne Murphy was invited to sing for the 250 guests, performing her rendition of O mio babbino caro from Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi.
