St Ninian’s tops the national schools board

It’s the second time in four years that the school has been awarded in the Sunday Times guide to Britain’s top educational establishments.

St Ninian’s came second in a table of the best average exam results over three years - pipped to the post by Jordanhill - but was still given the top award, thanks to ongoing improvements in exam performance.

Williamwood and Mearns Castle also had cause to celebrate, coming third and fourth, while Woodfarm and Eastwood placed in the top 50 (21 and 34 respectively).

Councillor Elaine Green, East Ren convener for education and equalities, offered her congratulations on a “wonderful achievement”.

She added: “I’m also delighted to see so many of our secondary school in the top 50. This achievement is testament to the hard work and commitment of our pupils and staff, and the support of parents — well done.”

St Ninian’s gained record results for higher exams this year — advancing nine per cent on last year, with more than half of S5 pupils gaining five or more highers (double the national average).
