Staff malk wiles for charity

Over 60 employees from SSE’s Cumbernauld and Glasgow sites took part in the fundraiser St Andrew’s Hospice on Friday, June 28.

The group set off from Tom Johnston House and finished 15 miles later at One Waterloo Street in Glasgow.

SSE staff have helped out at the Airdrie-based hospice in the past by painting and tidying the gardens.

And when employees were asked to nominate a charity to help this year, many decided once again to dedicate time to the Hospice.

Terri O’Donnell, SSE employee, who also works on the Healthy Working Lives team, said: “Every year, through our employee volunteering scheme, Community at Heart, staff get a day away from their normal work duties to help out a local project or charity.

“A lot of the activities usually include hands-on tasks such as gardening and painting.

“But this year, many of us decided to do something a little different and organise a company fundraising event to raise money for the Hospice.

“The Hospice does great work and provides such a good support for people with life limiting illnesses.

“We are doing this as a show of thanks to the great work they do as well as aim to raise money that can help make a difference to the Hospice.

“The response so far from staff for the walk has been superb and we are looking forward to raising money.”

Katie Mulgrew, director of fundraising at St Andrew’s Hospice, added: “I can’t thank SSE staff enough for organising and undertaking this charity walk. We have to raise over £57,000 each week to keep the services going at St Andrew’s Hospice so to have this show of support from SSE to help raise much need funds is greatly appreciated. Because staff at SSE care. We can care.”
