Stage stars of the future

BUDDING young theatre stars from Newton Mearns have learned from the best after a visit from a big name showbiz dancer.

The youngsters from Razzamataz Theatre School took part in a full day workshop in Paisley with Martin Fenton, star of Sky 1’s Pineapple Dance Studios (alongside Louis Spence) and dancer for Take That, Coldplay, Rihanna...to mention a few.

Glasgow-born Martin — who trained in London and New York, and performed at last year’s Olympics — returned to home turf to teach East Renfrewshire’s future stage stars all that he’s learned from his time in the
spotlight.

The school’s under eights learned material from the new west end hit Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, while older pupils were put through their paces to learn choreography from The Lion King.

Natalie James, principal of the Newton Mearns theatre school, told The Extra: “We at Razzamataz were delighted to work with Martin and have our pupils learn from such an experienced
professional.

“We believe it’s important to encourage more children to get into performing arts.

“It’s shown not only to have positive effects on health and wellbeing, but also on confidence and self-esteem — massively important for children in today’s high pressured society.

“Our pupils had a fabulous day and can’t wait to have Martin back again.”
