Starks on trek left beaming after raising cash for African dream

A TRIO of intrepid school pals pulled on their walking boots to complete a 96-mile trek and raise funds for a charity carrying out vital work working in Africa.

Marc Rooney, Crawford Kenney and Gordon Yule, all sixth year pupils at Bishopbriggs Academy, took on the West Highland Way, from Milngavie to Fort William, during the school break in October.

The teenagers covered the route in five days, camping at Balmaha, Inverarnan, Bridge of Orchy and Kinlochleven along the way.

As well as enjoying the trek, Crawford (17) also raised £166 in sponsorship for Luwero Community Projects in Uganda.

He said: “It went really well and we had great fun.

“It was worth doing and it was an experience that we all will never forget.

“I chose to raise money for Luwero as the charity has tlinks with our school. They really make a difference in Uganda and the money will be used well.”
