Still Game star comes to East Dunbartonshire

Glasgow funny man Sanjeev Kohli will join Wolverine, Superman and Captain America fans at East Dunbartonshire's first ever comic book convention.

The Still Game and River City star will be the guest of honour at the action-packed Comic-Con bash in Bishopbriggs on 11 June.

Organised by the East Dunbartonshire Health and Social Care Partnership, in association with the Big Glasgow Comic Page, the event also aims to raise awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

An eclectic choice of stalls crammed with collectibles and crafts based on comics and pop culture will be available, while visitors can dress up as their favourite character and take part in a “cosplay” contest.

EDICT (East Dunbartonshire Initiative for Creative Therapy), SDS (Self Directed Support) and the East Dunbartonshire Local Area Co-ordinators will be on hand to give out information about autism and SDS.

Councillor Rhondda Geekie, East Dunbartonshire HSCP Chairperson, said, “Comic books and their associated characters are hugely popular across the world, so it’s really exciting to welcome the first event of its kind to Bishopbriggs.

“A lot of great work is going on locally to support people who are affected by ASD through the Council’s Autism Strategy, and Comic Con is the ideal place to raise awareness of it. It promises to be a fantastic day out.”

The day will run from 10am-5pm at the Woodhill Evangelical Church. Sanjeev will be there at 11am, while the cosplay competition kicks off at 3pm.
