Store raises fund-tastic £26k

This year alone, Asda in Bishopbriggs has raised thousands for its main charities - £6,000 for Cash for Kids and £4,000 for the Tickled Pink campaign , which benefits breast cancer charities.

Staff have taken part in a ‘Colleagues Knockout’ event and braved having their legs waxed, while managers took

on a cycle and mountain challenge.

Meanwhile, customers have dug deep to give to charities and groups who have collected donations in store and carried out bag packing.

Just some of those to benefit include Marie Curie Cancer Care, Macmillan Cancer Support, RNIB, Lenzie Football Club, Girl Guides and Creative Care.

Lorraine MacDonald, the community life champion at Asda Bishopbriggs, said: “It’s amazing to have raised this amount. I wouldn’t have thought in a million years we would reach this total, as we know how hard it is for people right now.

“By putting a penny or two in a bucket, it does add up.

“We are so grateful to our customers and a big thanks goes to them. We really appreciate all their help. And all the money goes to local good causes.”

Asda also runs a ‘Green Token’ scheme whereby customers nominate which charity or good cause money should go to.

In addition to fundraising, Lorraine also spends six hours a week in the community and has recently been helping the Seagull Trust as well as doing healthy eating sessions with schools.

The store also has a community room, which it offers to groups free of charge with tea, coffee and biscuits

thrown in.

Meanwhile, Asda is currently running its Give a Gift at Christmas appeal to support local charities nominated by

customers. The charities are Cash for Kids, Trussel Trust and Action for Children.
