Strong exam results once again for East Dunbartonshire pupils

Today's SQA exam results for East Dunbartonshire's secondary school students have been welcomed by Council educations chiefs.

Results across the board show an improving trend in overall achievement rates in the first year in which pupils sat the new Higher examination. It is the third year that younger pupils have faced the new National 2, 3 and 4 qualifications.

Across the area, 95.8% of S4 pupils achieved five or more National 4 passes while 67.5% obtained five or more passes at National 5.

Amongst 5th year pupils, 78.3% obtained one or more Highers while 58.5% achieved three or more Highers. The number of S5 pupils achieving five or more Highers rose to 34.1%. These Higher results show a rise of 1.7%, 2.9% and 1% respectively on last year.

Results for S6 pupils remained strong with 35.3% gaining three or more Highers. Those achieving Advanced Higher rose by 3% to 33.9%

Councillor Maureen Henry, Convener of the Education Committee, welcomed the positive results, saying, “Once again there is much to celebrate for the pupils and teachers in East Dunbartonshire’s schools with this great set of results.

“They have all risen to the inevitable challenges that come with the introduction of new qualifications and should be proud of what they have achieved. I appreciate the hard work of all staff and pupils who are continuing to ensure the high standards of attainment and achievement in East Dunbartonshire.”
