In July of this year, Lisa Johnstone, Lee Scolin and Calum Henderson stormed through the regional heat of the Worldskills UK Microsoft Network Administrator competition.

Securing three of the eight final places, the trio are now preparing to travel to Birmingham for the last stage of the gruelling contest which will be held on November 15 to 17 at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC).

Calum (19), from Cumbernauld, has been busy preparing for the final.

He said: “I am excited and nervous at the same time. It is a huge competition to take part in and not everyone gets the chance to be involved. I have never done anything like this before but it’s going to be a great experience and something I can put on my CV.

“We are all looking forward to it.”

In the regional heat, Lisa picked up the gold award while Calum and Lee followed with silver and bronze respectively.

Charlie Johnstone, computing lecturer at Cumbernauld College, will be accompanying the students to the final.

He said: “The regional heat was tough and the finals will be even harder but the students are incredibly talented and will give the rest of the contestants a run for their money.

“Everyone at the college is rooting for Lisa, Calum and Lee and we wish them all the best for the competition.”
