Supermarket plans ‘could ruin our town’

CONCERNS have been raised by Kilsyth Community Council over plans to build a new retail development in the town.

A planning application has been lodged to demolish the old police station on Parkfoot Road and build a retail unit that would house three businesses.

Supermarket giants Tesco, bakers Greggs and frozen food specialists Iceland have all signalled their interest in taking up the units if the planning application is given the green light.

The members of the development team who attended the meeting, Brian Robinson of Crucible Developments and Ged Hainey of Ryden, say the venture could create up to 19 construction jobs, and 50 part and full-time positions once the shops open.
