Support families in crisis by buying a Christmas tree

By choosing to buy a Caring Christmas Tree from Bethany Christian Trust’s website customers can make a real difference to someone in need this Christmas.

Local community fundraiser Chris Gordon, said: “It’s a really simple concept. A person orders their tree from caringchristmastrees.com and then chooses the size of tree they want and the location and date they wish to collect it from. You still get to choose your individual tree with help from our festive volunteers.”

After the success of last year, there will again be a collection point at Bearsden Baptist Church staffed by people from the local community.

Increasing demand for their trees means that there are now six collection points in Glasgow and beyond, so customers won’t have to travel far to choose their perfect tree.

Every penny raised from the initiative stays in the local area as Bethany seek to support those who are lonely and isolated in nearby Maryhill and St Georges Cross.

While some people might prefer an artificial tree, Chris explains that buying a real tree can actually be better for the environment.

He said: “We source all our trees from a farm near West Calder and for every tree cut another is planted. In that sense it is no different from any other crop. The trees can even be recycled in a number of innovative ways while an artificial tree has to go to landfill eventually.”

Bethany support over 7000 people every year and their work in the west of Scotland continues to expand with eleven community hubs supporting people who are at risk of homelessness.
