Phyllis Craig MBE, manager of Clydeside Action on Asbestos said: “We already have a support group that meets monthly in Glasgow, however as there has been an increase in enquiries from North Lanarkshire, it has become necessary to set up an additional support group.

“We know the positive impact that having access to a support group can have on a persons’ ability to cope with

their condition, as the group provides an opportunity for people to come together to share their experiences. It is therefore it is vital that there is support available locally.

“The meetings are very informal and will be held monthly.

“Anyone with an asbestos-related condition in the area is welcome to come along.”

John Pentland MSP said: “Clydeside Action on Asbestos has a long and distinguished history of helping people with asbestos related conditions and campaigning on their behalf for better support and changes in legislation, so I am delighted that there will be a local source of support based in Motherwell to provide a service for people in North Lanarkshire.

“Being diagnosed with an asbestos related condition understandably causes great concern for the person with the illness and their family and friends, so it is important to have advice and support readily available to help them to understand and live with their condition.”

The support group will be launched on Friday, March 4 at 11.30am in the Daisy Park Community Centre, Cassels Street, Motherwell.
