Support pours in for family of tragic Kirsty

A fund for tragic mum-of-four Kirsty Aitchison has raised almost £10,000.

The 30-year-old’s body was recovered from the River Clyde by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service on Saturday, ending a week long search.

Kirsty, who was deaf, was last seen alive the previous Sunday, walking towards the Broomielaw after a a social event for deaf people in the city centre.

The death of the young Robroyston woman is not being treated as suspicious, police have said.

The morning after Kirsty’s body was found, friends and family set up a fundraising page to meet the £2,000 funeral costs. On Monday morning, the amount donated had surpassed £9,500.

Flowers and other tributes have been left by the riverside beside the Tradeston Bridge, close to where her body was found.

Yesterday her cousin Garry Wilson thanked members of the public who joined the city-wide search, have donated to the fund or sent messages of support.

“I would just like to to thank everyone for their time, efforts and support,” he wrote on Facebook. “As you will know we have found Kirsty and while this is far removed from the resolution any of us would have hoped for, our little cousin is at peace.

“For that at the very least I am thankful.

“We will miss her greatly and she has been taken from us all far, far too early. Again I want to thank you all for the masses of support both myself and the rest of the family have received from everyone worldwide.

“This is humbling and restores a bit of faith in humanity.”

Police Chief Inspector John McBride, who led the search for Kirsty said: “We would like to thank members of the public and the Deaf/BSL community for their support and assistance throughout this investigation.

“Our thoughts and condolences are with Kirsty’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
