Survey says more needed on Hampden event days

The community council surveyed 136 southsiders following the Scottish Cup semi-finals at the end of January, in the hope of passing on persistent issues to Glasgow City Council, Police Scotland, Hampden and City Parking.

Of those who responded, 64 per cent agreed that Hampden Park is a “positive asset” for the neighbourhood.

However, anti-social behaviour was highlighted, including problems with public urination, drinking, littering and offensive language.

With only 44% of residents responding that the event day parking zone was well enforced, the majority commented otherwise, with 30 separate comments reporting illegally parked cars not being removed or tickets — and many saying they were unable to park near home.

Chris Carus, MoFloCoCo chair, told The Extra: “The survey shows that most people are proud to have the national stadium in their neighbourhood. 136 residents gave constructive input with the aim of helping the police, Hampden Park Ltd, City Parking and other agencies to organise events more effectively with their finite resources.

“We’ll be running the survey after all major events this year, and we invite all neighbours of Hampden to keep in touch with us on social media or via our website.”

The findings were unveiled at MoFloCoCo’s last meeting, also attended by councillor Archie Graham.

Councillor Graham told The Extra: “The views from the survey are very positive amd most welcome — there are issues that require action, however.

“I have agreed to arrange for discussions between Mount Florida Community Council, the police and Glasgow City Council to take place in order that we can work collectively to resolve these issues.”
