And her moves have certainly paid off. Not only does she have a job she loves, she was voted top in the whole country at it!

Susan (26), who is a pre-school superviser working at Big Bird Nursery in Whitburn, has been named Nursery Practitioner of the Year.

She received her award from the National Day Nursery Association at a celebration in Manchester.

“I am thrilled,” said Susan.

Susan went to Underbank Primary and then Lanark Grammar before embarking on her first choice of career.

“I am originally a secondary PE teacher but then I decided I wanted to work with younger children,” said Susan.

“So I opened my own child-minding business.”

But she branched out further, into organising training for those working with children and then moved to the Big Bird Nursery.

She has been described as an “inspiration” who brings her enthusiasm into the nursery every day.
