Swing king David eyes Hollywood

An acting and performance student from Glasgow Clyde College is hoping that his portrayal of Mowgli in the college’s production of The Jungle Book will set him on the path to following in the footsteps of former students.

Previous graduates from the course include Laura Fraser (Breaking Bad, A Knight’s Tale) and Iain De Caestecker (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Lost River), who have both enjoyed successful careers in Hollywood after graduating from the college.

And 22-year-old Paul Devers, who is in his third year at the college, hopes to follow them, having been cast in the lead role for the pantomime recently at the college’s Langside campus theatre.

The former Williamwood High pupil, who grew up in Busby, said: “I haven’t really been the lead in a production before so I was really excited to step into the limelight. I’ve always loved The Jungle Book so it was great to have the opportunity to play Mowgli as he’s such a fun and likeable character.

“I decided to go to Glasgow Clyde College as it has a reputation for being one of the best places in Scotland to study if you want to become an actor.”

Directed by course director David Lee-Michael, the college’s production of The Jungle Book aimed to introduce tomorrow’s stage stars to Glasgow audiences. David said: “Having local kids and their parents attending in the evenings plays a huge role in our aims as a community college.”
