TA will come to Cumbernauld

REPRESENTATIVES from Glasgow Territorial Army units will come to Cumbernauld to promote the range of employment opportunities available within the organisation.

You can speak to the representatives at Cumbernauld Shopping Centre on Saturday, November 3, between 9am to 4pm.

The recruitment drive is part of a campaign to encourage new recruits to join one of Glasgow’s Territorial Army (TA) units.

Six TA units will be organising displays, foot and mobile patrols throughout the day as well as demonstrations from The Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland and the Army School of a Bagpipe Music and Highland Drumming.

The TA plays a key role working alongside and supporting the regular army.

This year alone, the TA in Scotland has recruited around 300 additional soldiers with many more currently going through the application process.

The TA allows people to serve in the army in their spare time, alongside full time studies or a career.

The exciting and challenging training regime, often alongside regular soldiers, prepares them to be ready at short notice to serve alongside their Regular Army counterparts.

TA soldiers are paid the same per day as their regular counterparts and have to complete a minimum of 27 days of training a year.

The recruitment drive is being run by Major Emma Bruce, area recruiting officer for Glasgow.

Major Bruce said: “Being part of the TA offers so many opportunities. If you are outgoing and interested in doing something really exciting then you should consider the TA and come along to one of the displays to talk to some of the soldiers. They can answer any questions potential recruits may have about the many opportunities that life as a TA soldier can bring.”

The TA are looking particularly for people aged between 18-43 who are keen to increase their teamwork and leadership potential as well as learn new skills through military and adventurous training.

Full training is given for all the roles required, including a minimum of six training weekends as well as two weeks at Catterick in Yorkshire for those joining as infantry soldiers.
