Talented youngsters can dance the night away

The competition was open to every school in the area, and around 180 youngsters took part, showing off a range of styles from street, Irish and contemporary to cheerleading and Bollywood.

The event, organised by East Renfrewshire council’s Active Schools team and Eastwood High, was held at the school’s sports centre, and attracted competitors from 13 of the area’s primary schools and five of the high schools.

Netherleee was the winner in the primary team category for a cheerleading performance, while Irish dancer Keira McCue from St John’s in Barrhead was crowned individual winner at primary level.

At secondary level, Woodfarm and Eastwood were the winners, with Woodfarm’s finest performing a Bollywood routine and home team Eastwood presenting an Irish/freestyle collaboration.

Marie Baxter, of Active Schools, told The Extra: “Schools have been working hard over the past few weeks to prepare and many of the groups had been attending after-school clubs.

“Eastwood High pupils assisted on the night and it was a fantastic event.”

The show was opened and closed in style by local groups Jam School of Dance and Le Dance — proving that there’s plenty of toe-tapping talent in East Ren these days.
