Tam’s unlucky fall could lead to a meeting with one of the world’s most spiritual men

A POET who discovered his muse after falling on his head is hoping his latest book might lead to a meeting with the Dalai Lama

Prolific poet Tam Craven, from Lennoxtown, has written the title poem of his latest volume, entitled ‘Big Tam ‘n’ Wee Sam ‘n’ the Dalai Lam’, and hopes to publish the full book at the start of June.

Inspired by ‘Wee Sam’ - a school pupil Tam used to help over the road when he worked as a crossing patroller in Milton of Campsie - the poem sees the duo take a trip around the world to meet celebrities and world leaders.

The famous faces include the Dalai Lama - who will be speaking in Scotland later this year.

Tam, who credits a serious fall for unleashing his writing talent, said: “The coincidences are amazing. I fell 22ft from scaffolding in Clachan of Campsie on June 22. Now, 25 years later and after my 25th book, the Dalai Lama will be speaking at Dundee University on June 22.”

A chance meeting with a representative of the Inter Faith Association - the organisation who invited the religious leader to Scotland - was yet another coincidence.

Tam said: “I signed a copy of the poem for the Dalai Lama and she said she would pass it on, so who knows where it will end?”

This is Tam’s 25th book of verse. He says he discovered his talent after falling from scaffolding.
