Tarbrax awarded £184,000 for common green

TARBRAX villagers have drawn up ambitious plans to drain and upgrade their Common Green.

And they have been awarded almost 184,000 in grants towards the first phase of the work.

Money has come from waste management specialists Viridor, coal cash through the Rural Community Trust, and 50,000 from the Black Law Renewable Energy Fund.

It is operated by South Lanarkshire Council and funded by ScottishPower Renewables, operators of the Black Law Windfarm.

"We have about 90 per cent of the money," said Margaret Addo who chairs the Tarbrax Common Association. "But this is only one phase of the work."

The green suffers badly from flooding due to the high levels of peat it contains, which means local groups are unable to use it for much of the year.
