We must tell the UN about life in Scotland for young people. That’s the rallying call from youth MSP Martin Gallagher.

Member of the Scottish Youth Parliament for Glasgow Cathcart, Martin is asking young people aged 18 and under to share their views with the United Nations.

He said: “On Tuesday, Scotland’s Commissioner for Children and Young People’s office released a request for young Scots to #TellTheUN both positive and negative aspects of life here in Scotland.

“We are seeking responses ahead of a visit from UN Representative Amal Aldoseri to Scotland on Thursday, September 3 (today) but it’s not too late to have your say.”

They want to hear from every young person in Scotland, under the age of 18 on aspects of life, including, but not limited to, school, community, health and health services, family, sports, social life, charity activity and work.

Martin added: “It is vital that the United Nations hear the views of Scotland’s young people. We are ready and waiting to be heard, and taken seriously.

“This is our chance to be heard on an International platform, and it takes a few moments to make a big difference.

“Young people’s contribution to society is essential, and now we are being offered a chance to make our voices heard, so let’s take action, together as One Scotland.”

Tam Baillie, Scotland’s Commissioner for Children and Young People, said: “The UN is sending a representative from the Committee on the Rights of the Child to assess how the governments here, Scottish and UK, are meeting the rights of children and young people.

“The Scottish Youth Parliament is hosting this visit on my behalf and MSYPs will be travelling with Ms Aldoseri as she meets and talks to groups of Scotland’s children and young people.”

He added: “I hope that as many children and young people as possible from Cathcart and the surrounding areas take part and tell the UN what it’s like to grow up and live in Scotland.”
