Tesco row continues

Bitter opposition to a new Tesco in Cumbernauld is continuing as the community mobilises a full scale campaign against the fledgling move.

A survey circulated amongst businesses in Condorrat’s Main Road has revealed that 93 per cent of businesses oppose plans to open a Tesco Express within the site of Condorrat Social Club. The document was circulated by Condorrat Community Council.

On Tuesday, February 11 a small demonstration was held outside the club while members discussed the controversial proposal - which has not yet been submitted to planners.

No votes were cast at this meeting but we can reveal that another meeting has been scheduled for Sunday, March 2 where members will vote on whether to allow their club to be partially converted into a supermarket.
