The Little Haven is Community Champion at Great Scot Awards

The great work carried out by volunteers at the Little Haven, in Forth, has been recognised with a national award.

The Haven, which helps those with life-limiting illnesses, was named this year’s Community Champion at the Sunday Mail Great Scot Awards.

Ten representatives from the Haven, including co-founder Jessie Griffin, were at the glittering awards ceremony at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow. These included clients, volunteers and committee members.

Little Haven development officer Kate Williamson admitted that it had been an emotional night for everyone especially after co-ordinator Karin Hynes speech.

She said: “It was a great night for everyone who was there and was pretty emotional for all of us. No-one could believe it when it was announced that we had won.

“We have thought about getting an open top bus through Forth to celebrate but we thought that might be a bit extreme!

“Jessie was so proud to have won because everyone has worked so hard to get to this point and Karin’s speech was absolutely brilliant.”
