Think green, take selfie is campaign message

East Ren council’s Think Green campaign launched this week to encourage people to promote sustainability and green activities.

Chief executive Lorraine McMillan and leader Jim Fletcher signed up to Think Green on Tuesday, pledging their support for the council’s climate change declaration, energy management policy statement and environmental sustainability policy statement.

Councillor Fletcher said: “We have a responsibility to balance social, economic, and environmental objectives and to ensure the wellbeing and sustainability of future generations.

“We are always looking for ways to make going green, and being more sustainable, fun and engaging for staff and local people alike. We’d like people to share ideas for going green — that is, individuals, communities, groups and schools with bright ideas, or just to share ‘a selfie’ of their undertaking.

“We’re leading the way with a number of initiatives, such as the electric car charging points across the district, and installing recycling bins alongside many of our street refuse bins.”
