Thornliebank kids give their hearts to hospice

Thornliebank Primary pupils joined forces with comedienne Karen Dunbar this week to give the Prince and Princess Wales Hospice a fundraising boost.

The Chewin The Fat star popped into the school to launch new fundraising packs for the charity’s new hospice, at Bellahouston Park.

The foundations of the state-of-the-art facility cost £1 million — and the Foundation Appeal is looking for the last £330,000, with a little help from the famous friend and East Ren youngsters.

Headteacher Siobhan McColgan explained: “We were delighted to welcome Karen and th hospice team to Thornliebank Primary to help launch the fundraising packs.

“It’s a great cause and the launch was a good opportunity too for the children to learn more about the important work of the hospice.

“The school is happy to help and we now have our own fundraising pack, with some great ideas for raising vital funds.”

Karen Dunbar added: “Glasgow and East Renfrewshire schools and many community organisations are receiving fundraising packs full of event organising tips and fun ideas to help raise the final funds so desperately needed to put in the foundations for the new hospice to be built on.

“Everyone is being asked to make a donation and fill in their personal message of support onto paper hearts that will then be sunk into the foundations just under the front door — so go on, make a donation and put your heart in the hospice.”
