Thousands expected at Carluke Gala Day

THOUSANDS of people will throng the streets of Carluke this Saturday, June 9, for the town’s annual Gala Day which will see Braidwood Primary pupil Nash Westwater (10) crowned Gala Queen in Market Square.

Gala chairwoman Ruby Mitchell is greatly looking forward to an event which sees her work tirelessly throughout the year to secure funding and ensure that it runs as smoothly as possible.

Ruby said: “I think Gala Day is so popular because people in Carluke realise it is the only thing here which brings all the people together.

“We have 17 floats at this year’s gala and all of them are really good.

“I wouldn’t like to be one of the judges having to pick a winner!”

The day will be a particularly exciting one for Queen Nash and her family including mum Michala Walker and big sister Devon (11).

“I’m really looking forward to the day and I’m ecstatic for Nash that she was chosen to be Queen,” said Michala (36), of Mill Edge, Carluke, who is originally from London.

“In November there was an open draw at the school and it was Nash’s name which was picked out to be Queen.”
