Thousands of revellers enjoy MugStock 2016

The sunny weather was an added bonus for the festival which was full to the brim with music, art, poetry, spoken word, comedy, film showings, parades, and kids activities’.

The weekend opened on a glorious Friday evening across the event’s six venues – Corrie, Chameleon, The Glade, Jolly Lovely, Charlie’s Theatre, and Tchai-Ovna – with performances, among others, from Mickey 9’s, DOHNUT, Mayor Stubbs, The Girobabies, and a headline slot from Emma Pollock getting the festival off to blistering start.

DJ’s kept the momentum going late into the wee hours at The Glade dance tent, accompanied by the campsite fire, something of a festival hub.

On Saturday MugStockers eased into the day with activities such as yoga, willow weaving workshops, hula-hoop displays, and children’s storytelling.

The afternoon’s non-stop live music included The Herald’s Best Unsigned Act 2015 Supa & Da Kryptonites, Trinidad and Tobago’s Jointpop, the electric Jamie & Shoony, and the very weird and wonderful Henge.

Next up was a brilliant evening of headlining acts with Colonel Mustard & The Dijon 5, complete with ever present lively Yellow Movement following, setting up for alternative hip-hop kings Stanley Odd. Lou Hickey’s rich and soulful voice rounded off Saturday at Chameleon Stage while at The Glade a star-studded DJ lineup included one festival highlight Rebecca Vasmant and Glasgow dance icons Silicone Soul.

The weather Gods continued to shine ensuring momentum going into Sunday didn’t dampen. A selection of talented acts from the local area in the Strathblane Showcase showed that MugStock recognises some of the best music to be found is right on its doorstep.

Another eclectic day of programming culminated in fledgling Americana outfit James Edwyn and The Borrowed Band before guitar virtuoso Nick Harper and the unique Theremin Hero completed the day.

Highly rated Siobhan Wilson also wowed and captivated the audience before Scottish pop icons BMX Bandits headlined the final night of MugStock 2016.

The Shiverin’ Sheiks provided a final boogie before more dancing down at The Glade.

We took a big step forwards from last year, with more local involvement, a bigger and even more diverse line-up, a new layout to make the most of the natural features of the park, and loads more people coming to enjoy themselves.

“I’m extremely grateful to the whole MugStock team, who worked together so hard to make the event happen, and to everyone who came and helped create such a special atmosphere all weekend. It was just as lovely as we hoped it would be, and everyone is already talking about how to make it even better next year.”
