Three years for slashing

A young dad who slashed a complete stranger after an argument on a bus has been jailed for three years and four months at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

Joshua Thomson’s victim needed stitches and underwent surgery after the vicious attack in Netherton.

Thomson (21), a prisoner, admitted assaulting Jason Lyons to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement in Netherton Road on January 27 this year.

The court heard the accused already has a clutch of previous convictions for assaults and carrying weapons.

Lauren McRobert, prosecuting, said there was a disagreement on a bus between Thomson, who was with pals, and Mr Lyons (43).

When they got off Thomson walked up to Mr Lyons and slashed his face.

Defence agent Diarmid Bruce said Thomson, high on drink and drugs, could remember little about it.

Sheriff Ray Small said the accused will be supervised for a year on his release from prison.
