Thug hit woman from behind and stole purse

A VICIOUS thief bashed a woman on the back of the head and stole her handbag in a shocking attack.

Two concierge staff from nearby flats chased the cowardly robber, but he gave them the slip.

Police are appealing for information to catch the culprit.

The attack took place at around 9pm on Thursday when the 45-year-old victim was walking from Springburn Road towards Pinkston Road, Sighthill.

The woman was struck on the head, from behind, by a man who grabbed her handbag containing a small sum of money, mobile phone and personal items before making off.

Police said the lady was not injured, but is “very distressed” by what happened.

Detective Sergeant Gillian McKay is appealing for witnesses.

She said: “Two of the concierge staff from nearby flats chased the suspect over a footbridge, but lost him. He was last seen on Royston Road.”

He is described as black, 5ft 10ins, in his early 20s, with a skinny build, a Glasgow accent and glasses. He was wearing a cream hooded top under a bright blue body warmer and light blue denims.

“Officers are currently checking the numerous CCTVs in the area, however, at this time we would appeal to anyone who was in the area and saw the man to come forward,” said DS McKay.

“We believe the man might have been hanging about the Kyle Street area prior to the attack as that’s where he followed the woman from.

“This is a very busy area so it is very possible that people using that route, whether motorists, on a bus or pedestrians, may have seen the man there or indeed later, a short distance away, being chased by the two concierge.
