Tickling Newton Mearns pink

The store hosts its biannual Tickled Pink fundraiser on March 8-9, in aid of Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Campaign — and there are a host of activities planned for staff and visitors of The Avenue shopping centre.

Asda’s community life champion, Claire Rennie, told The Extra: “We’ll have a range of activities going on in store over the weekend.

“On Friday, we’ll be doing a cake and candy sale, tombola and various colleagues are doing a sponsored 100 mile relay race on an exercise bike – each doing five to 10 miles until the 100 miles is done. It all kicks off at 10am and will continue throughout the day.

“On Saturday, more than 10 of our grocery boys will be getting their legs waxed throughout the day and grocery colleague Audrey Loudon has promised to shave all her hair off for the cause at 1pm – if she manages to reach £400 worth of donations.

“Her colleague John Davies, who is currently recovering from cancer, has volunteered to be the barber for the day while the rest of our staff are digging deep into their pockets – we’ll also be looking for customers to help us reach this target.”

There are plenty of incentives for customers to get involved, as first prize at the Saturday-drawn raffle is a mountain bike – followed by a meal for two at Pavone Sud, and a £20 Asda gift card.

Michelle McCabe, centre manager at The Avenue, invites all along to join in the fun.

She added: “Tickled Pink is always a fun event and Asda is to be commended on its tremendous efforts which, over the last 16 years, have raised over £29 million for Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Campaign.

“I’m sure that all our shoppers will enjoy getting Tickled Pink this weekend, and help Asda raise more funds for this worthy cause.”
